Today marks the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. That means 37 years ago, women did not have the freedom of choice with their own bodies that we have today. Even with Roe v. Wade in place, some people are still trying to limit our choices by supporting the Provider Conscience Rule. This Rule "would allow doctors, nurses and nearly anyone else employed in a health care setting to deny women access to birth control, based on the providers own personal belief that birth control is immoral or tantamount to abortion." This rule took effect on January 18th - just days before Obama took office. That means if a woman wants to fill her birth control prescription at her local pharmacy, a pharmacist has the right to refuse to fill it for her based on his/her beliefs. That just sounds absolutely crazy to me.

Sheesh, see what going on vacation can do? I had NO idea. I HATE this new law as you described it.
I can only hope that if a woman runs into someone who's intent on limiting/denying her choice, she tells everyone she knows and they all boycott that provider!
k.
It actually went into effect on the 18th, but Bush wrote it back in November. I remember hearing about it, but didn't give it much thought because I wrongly assumed it wouldn't go through. Crazy, isn't it?!
That is crazy. I wish I had heard about that even though I'm sure our word would have been ignored as it probably was. Thanks for passing it on. I'm awe struck!
That is absolutely nuts! I can't believe a pharmacist employed by Target or Rite Aid or CVS would be allowed to override their company's desire to make money. But I wonder whose rights would be infringed upon if they did or didn't. What a can of worms for something so wrong.
